Quartz glass, which is composed mainly of pure molten SiO2, has numerous properties such as chemical stability, heat resistance, and light transmission, not to mention high purity.
It has a very high softening point of approximately 1,700°C and can be used up to temperatures as high as 1,000°C. It also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and can withstand rapid temperature changes.
Quartz glass passes ultraviolet, visible, and infrared rays well, and is used as a material for lighting and optical equipment.
Because quartz glass contains very few impurities, it can be used without affecting the quality of high-performance semiconductors, which is becoming highly integrated.
